So now it’s clear that given an option you can move among the industries (Retail, healthcare, finance, telecom etc.). Position moves from business analyst to lead analyst then gradually moves up to the project management then program management and up. Depending upon the organization you may see some name or designation changes. It’s entirely up to you whether you want to continue with the similar position or want to become management consultant to do the consulting job. Some people prefer going the route of process improvement from BA. Process management also have several opportunities if someone is well versed with six-sigma, ITIL process or certified.
11. What are the challenges of business analyst?
Business analyst role is full of challenges. It will be unfair to ignore this part and move on to the other focus points. Once you will learn about the regular day of a business analyst, you will realize that every day is very similar but the moment you add some challenge flavor, it becomes completely different all together. Will give you one example: Sam is working as a business analyst. He come to the office and starts his day by looking at his to dos and the calendar. He noticed he have 3 meetings in the afternoon and 1 deliverable for today. He started working towards his deliverable. At lunch he met with the sponsor who asked him to get one report asap. For this report BA needs some input from other user who is a remote user. Now BA is running out of time because he already has 3-hour meeting in the afternoon and his deliverable is due today with the sponsor report.
12. How BA will manage this? This example shows the very common problem and the challenges BA may face.
Without having some support or knowledge BA cannot think about the correct approach which will result in to the panicking situation. To avoid the panic situation BA may ask the sponsor, if this report can be delayed by 1 day so that he can complete his deliverable and also try to get hold of the remote user to get the information which is needed for the sponsor report. This is how BA will manage the day to day challenges and make progress.
13. What other challenges BA may face?
There are variety of challenges BA my faces due to several factors such as lack of domain knowledge, leadership , communication issues etc.
